Occupational Skills Programme: Workplace Preparation – SP-201201

Young people who arrive at work knowing what employers expect, how to present themselves and how to manage their time and money – with a QCTO certificate at NQF Level 2.

Most qualifications teach people how to do a job; very few teach them how to find one and keep it. This work readiness programme – the QCTO Occupational Skills Programme: Workplace Preparation (SP-201201, NQF Level 2, 30 credits) – fills that gap. The QCTO programme document sets its purpose as preparing young and unemployed people for placement in the world of work.

Over 30 days, 15 of them in contact sessions with a BOTI facilitator, learners work through what work is about, how to search and interview for a job, what employers expect, how to succeed in the first months, and how to manage themselves, their time and their money. They prepare a CV and cover letter, practise interviews through role-play, draw up a personal budget and work in teams on practical tasks.

It is a practical, credit-bearing programme designed for YES placements, internships, learnership candidates and school-leaver intakes. There is no work-experience module, so learners do not need a placement to complete it.

    Frequently asked questions

Is this work readiness programme accredited?

Yes. It is a QCTO occupational skills programme (SP-201201, NQF Level 2, 30 credits), and BOTI is accredited by the QCTO to deliver it (07-QCTO/SDP040926111631, valid to 26 August 2031). The QCTO issues the certificate. Learners may enrol until 11 December 2029.

    How is it assessed?

Continuously through assignments and tasks, with an integrated test at the end of every topic; learners move on only once a topic is complete. The final assessment is practical: each learner prepares a CV and job application letter and attends a mock interview built on workplace scenarios.

Do learners need a qualification or a placement?

No. Entry is open access, and there is no work-experience module, so learners do not need a placement to complete the programme.

How are the 30 days structured?

Fifteen contact days with a BOTI facilitator, usually three a week over six weeks, plus fifteen days of set tasks between sessions. The contact days can also run consecutively.

Can you run it for our YES or learnership intake on site?

Yes. We run it at your premises anywhere in South Africa, at BOTI's venue in Sunningdale, Johannesburg, or live online. Whether the spend counts towards your B-BBEE skills development is for your verification agency to confirm.
