Team Leader Duties and Safety (Unit Standards 242821 + 242668) (3 days)

Team leaders who know their role, win their team's commitment to agreed targets, keep performance on track and understand what the Occupational Health and Safety Act expects of them as managers – with 10 accredited credits.

Team leaders sit where management's plans meet daily work, and in South Africa they also carry legal duties for the health and safety of the people they lead. This accredited team leader training combines two unit standards, each taught and assessed on its own: unit standard 242821 on a team leader's responsibilities for meeting organisational standards (NQF Level 4, 6 credits) and unit standard 242668 on the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993, and management's duties under it (NQF Level 4, 4 credits). Both are part of the FETC: Generic Management (SAQA ID 57712), which BOTI delivers under its Services SETA accreditation.

Days one and two follow unit standard 242821: the team leader's role, authority and accountability, why work is organised in teams, agreeing tasks, targets and time frames with each member, and then tracking output, spotting variances and putting them right.

Day three follows unit standard 242668: why the Act exists, civil and criminal liability, the structures and appointments the Act calls for, a compliance plan and risk assessment for a business unit, and management's duty to communicate and train. Delegates work on their own team and workplace throughout.
