Training Advice
AI for Managers and Leaders (1 day)
Managers decide where AI fits in their area, roll it out with clear rules and measurable results, and bring their whole team with them.
In most organisations staff are already using AI tools – with or without permission, and often with client data. Managers are expected to set the rules, decide where AI is worth the spend, answer their team's questions and lead the change, usually without any grounding of their own. This AI training for managers gives leaders that grounding: strategic and practical, focused on the decisions managers have to make rather than the technology.
The day follows the questions a manager faces. Delegates map their own team's workflows and rank which tasks to automate, assist with AI or keep with people. They design a low-risk pilot with success criteria, learn to express the return in hours and rands for exco, and draft a plain-language AI usage policy covering approved tools, personal information under POPIA and sign-off. They also use AI themselves for briefing notes and decision summaries, so they know first-hand what it does well and where it misleads.
The final sessions cover leading the change: why adoption stalls, how to talk to anxious or sceptical staff about jobs and skills, and how to build an AI-ready team. Every manager leaves with a ranked use-case shortlist and a 90-day plan for their area.
Why this course
For your organisation
- AI effort aimed at the highest-value use cases, not scattered experiments
- Clear rules on approved tools and personal information, aligned with POPIA
- AI spend justified in hours saved and rands, or stopped
- Adoption across whole teams rather than a few enthusiasts
- Managers who can brief IT and vendors on the controls they need
For your delegates
- A ranked shortlist of AI use cases for your own team
- A one-page AI usage policy drafted on the day
- A simple method for measuring an AI pilot's return
- Practical ways to coach sceptical staff through the change
What delegates will be able to do
- Explain in business terms what generative AI can and cannot do
- Map your team's workflows and rank tasks to automate, assist with AI or keep with people
- Design a low-risk AI pilot with defined success criteria, and decide on the evidence whether to scale, adjust or stop
- Calculate an AI tool's return in hours saved and rands, and present it to senior leadership
- Draft a plain-language AI usage policy covering approved tools, personal information and sign-off
- Challenge hallucinated, biased or confidently wrong AI output before it reaches a client or a board pack
- Lead staff through AI adoption, addressing concerns about jobs, skills and fairness
- Plan the skills your team needs and a 90-day AI plan for your area
Who should attend
Managers, team leaders, heads of department, executives and business owners who need to make sound decisions about AI and lead their teams through it. No technical background is needed. It works well as a session for a whole management team that wants to agree one approach to AI.
