Problem Solving and Decision Making (Unit Standard 242817) (3 days)

Junior managers and team leaders who define problems properly, investigate before acting, choose solutions against clear criteria, and check afterwards that the fix worked – with 8 accredited credits.

Many workplace problems come back because the first fix treated a symptom rather than the cause. This accredited problem solving course covers unit standard 242817 (NQF Level 4, 8 credits), part of the FETC: Generic Management (SAQA ID 57712), which BOTI delivers under its Services SETA accreditation.

Day one is about understanding the problem: defining it from checked facts and opinions, involving the right stakeholders from the start, choosing a definition technique that fits, and investigating each part of the problem. Day two generates options with techniques such as brainstorming, mapping, questionnaires and the Delphi technique, then weighs them against criteria like cost, time, feasibility and stakeholder commitment.

Day three covers choosing the best solution, consulting stakeholders to win their support, implementing within the organisation's constraints, and measuring whether the solution worked, with corrective action where it did not.
