    This SAQA unit standard course specifically caters for Learning & Development Practitioners and has been configured for the purpose of teaching these specialists how to guide and advise learners in terms of learning and development opportunities as well as assessment.  Hence, if you are interested in the development and design of learning material for various learning approaches and delivery methods and that can be used for credit-bearing as well as non credit-bearing training courses, then this course is for you.  This course is also intended for HR Practitioners, Assessors and Moderators and Learning and Development Practitioners at large; who require an in-depth understanding of the construct and evaluation of instruments used in the assessment process.

    Course Outline

    Develop your skills in Learner Support and Guidance when you learn:

    How to identify and Analyse the needs of Learners:  Module 1

    The successful completion of this module will enable you to:

    • Pinpoint the types of Learner needs
    • Source relevant information in terms of ascertained Learner needs
    • Ascertain appropriate guidance to address Learner needs
    • Perform Learner needs analyses in a professional, sensitive and caring manner.
    • Ensure that Learner needs analyses involve active learner participation.
    • Ensure that relevant information and support resources are maintained.

    Develop and Review Learner Development Plan:  Module 2

    Upon successful completion of this module you will be able to:

    • Identify and pinpoint Learner aspirations, goals and overall objectives.
    • Align identified aspirations, goals and overall objectives to opportunities for learning and assessment.
    • Ensure that the development plan pinpoints learning outcomes in line with opportunities for learning and assessment.
    • Review an fine-tune identified goals to align with available opportunities and overall Learner requirements.
    • Review the development plan with a view to making adjustments as and when necessary.

    Provide Learner Support and Guidance:  Module 3

    Successfully completing this module will enable you to:

    • Provide appropriate guidance with corresponding practical solutions.
    • Provide appropriate support and guidance in a caring, sensitive and professional manner with a view to garnering learner participation.
    • Conduct a suitability analysis of the recommended support and guidance.
    • Where necessary, recommend external specialist support and guidance.
    • Uphold the confidential nature of the process at all times.

    Learner Support and Guidance Record Maintenance:  Module 4

    When you successfully complete this module you will be able to:

    • Record the content of the recommended Learner Support and Guidance provided.
    • Ensure that records align to the Support and Guidance being provided.
    • Ensure that records are accurate in terms of suitability for future reference.
    • Ensure that records meet the quality assurance requirements of the organisation.
    • Uphold the confidential nature of the process at all times.

    Evaluate Learner Support and Guidance Services provided:  Module 5

    Successful completion of this module will enable you to:

    • Obtain feedback from Learner and other stakeholders around the Support and Guidance provided.
    • Ensure that strengths and weaknesses are highlighted in the evaluation in terms of the Support and Guidance provided.
    • Ensure that the evaluation and corresponding recommendations are aligned to continuous improvement of the quality of Support and Guidance Services.
