    Become a skilled Moderator when you learn:

    How to moderate within the context of an OBE system:  Module 1 The successful completion of this module will enable you to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the moderation process as it pertains to an outcomes-based system and having grasped the following concepts:
    • The moderation process is a critical element of quality-assured assessment and recognition systems.
    • Methods used in the Moderation process
    • Key principles involved in the Assessment process
    • Methods and activities that are key to the Assessment and Moderation processes
    How to plan and prepare for the Moderation process:  Module 2 Upon successful completion of this module you will have acquired an understanding of:
    • Activities involved in the planning and preparation process
    • The scope of the Moderation process
    • Planning involved in identifying the extent of the Moderation as well as the methods to be used in the Moderation
    • Seeking clarification in terms of the context of the assessments being reviewed
    • How to plan the moderation methods and processes to be used
    • How to plan the human resources and other resources required for the Moderation process
    • How to prepare the documents required for moderation
    How to conduct the Moderation:  Module 3 Once you have successfully completed this module you will have acquired an understanding of how to conduct the moderation in line with the moderation plan in terms of the following:
    • Conducting the actual moderation
    • How to check and appraise the assessment instruments and process being adopted
    • How to ensure that the moderation takes into account the special needs of learners
    • How to moderate Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
    • Executing the moderation decision
    How to advise and support the Assessor:  Module 4 The successful completion of this module will enable you to provide expert advice and support in line with ensuring that the assessment is carried out using sound assessment principles.  You will also learn how to ensure that the assessment is conducted in such a way that it bolsters the maintenance and further development of quality management systems.  You will learn how to:
    • Providing support and advice to the assessor in achieving consensus
    • Providing support and advice to the assessor in terms of developing and maintaining the QMS
    • Providing support and advice to the assessor towards further development
    • How to communicate whilst upholding the requirement for confidentiality
    How to report, record and administer the moderation process:  Module 5 The successful completion of this module will ensure that you can effectively record, report on and administer the findings inherent within the moderation process.  The following specifics apply:
    • Reporting on the findings inherent within the moderation process
    • How to correctly maintain records as these pertain to the moderation process
    • How to uphold the requirements for confidentiality of information
    How to review moderation systems and processes:  Module 6
    • How to identify the strengths and weaknesses inherent within the moderation systems and processes
    • How to make sound recommendations
    • How to maintain the integrity of and enhance the credibility of the recognition system
