Improving Your Typing Skills: Touch Typing Course (1 day)
Staff type faster and more accurately with all ten fingers, with a words-per-minute score that shows the improvement.
Slow typing is a hidden cost. When staff hunt for keys with two fingers, every email, set of minutes, report and data-capture task takes longer than it should, and errors creep in that someone else has to fix. This one-day typing course moves delegates from hunt-and-peck habits to touch typing with all ten fingers (the skill taught in keyboarding classes), so they can keep their eyes on the screen or the source document instead of the keyboard.
The day follows a structured sequence. Delegates start with posture, the home row and the KAZ typing tutor, then build muscle memory with key phrases that cover the letter keys. Finger-placement drills for words and sentences follow, then capital letters, punctuation, the number row and the numeric keypad used in finance and data capture. The afternoon is given to timed speed and accuracy drills.
Each delegate's speed is tested in words per minute at the start and end of the day, giving you a clear before-and-after benchmark. Delegates leave with a short daily practice routine so the gains keep growing back at work. No previous typing knowledge is needed.
Why this course
For your organisation
- More output per hour from admin, reception and data-capture staff
- Fewer typing errors in client correspondence and captured data
- A measured words-per-minute result for every delegate
- Less strain and fatigue from better posture and finger placement
For your delegates
- Touch typing with all ten fingers instead of two
- Faster, more accurate number entry on the numeric keypad
- A words-per-minute score and a plan to keep improving
- Less neck, shoulder and wrist strain at the keyboard
What delegates will be able to do
- Set up a workstation and sitting position that support fast, comfortable typing
- Find every letter key from the home row without looking at the keyboard
- Type words and sentences using the correct finger for each key
- Type capital letters, punctuation and numbers accurately
- Enter figures quickly on the numeric keypad
- Raise typing speed while keeping errors low
- Measure their own speed and accuracy, and follow a daily practice routine
Who should attend
Anyone who works at a keyboard and still types with two fingers or looks down at the keys: receptionists, administrators, secretaries and personal assistants, data-capture, finance and operations staff, call-centre agents, and new employees and school leavers joining an office role. No previous typing knowledge is needed.

Frequently asked questions
Can you run this course at our offices?
Yes. Most groups are trained at the client's premises anywhere in South Africa; we can also host it at a BOTI venue.
How many people can attend?
From one delegate to groups of 20, each at their own computer. The price per delegate drops as the group grows – see the price table, or ask us for a quote.
Is it accredited?
No – it is a non-accredited short course and delegates receive a BOTI certificate of attendance. For administrative staff who need a full qualification, ask us about the QCTO Occupational Certificate: Office Administrator.
How much faster will our staff type?
It depends on the starting point. Two-finger typists usually see the biggest change, and touch typing keeps improving with daily practice after the course. Starting and final words-per-minute scores are recorded for each delegate, so you can see the result.
Can the course run online?
Yes, by arrangement. Each delegate needs a computer with a physical keyboard and a stable connection; the facilitator runs the drills and the speed tests over video.
Can you run this course in Johannesburg, Cape Town or Durban?
Yes. We train on site at your offices in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town and across South Africa, at a BOTI venue in Johannesburg, or live online so a team spread over several offices can attend together.
