Organizational Skills Course: Introduction

This course will teach participants how to declutter and organise their lives to be more productive at work and at home.

Organizational Skills Course :Course Outline

With our organisational skills workshop we invite participants to develop good organisational skills. This will provide participants with an investment in themselves that has benefits for years. One of the hardest parts of getting organised is getting rid of clutter, many people feel overwhelmed with clutter but this can be reduced by establishing a clutter cleaning calendar and also by dividing the clutter into manageable chunks. Along with the calendar sort tasks by each specific project. Tasks which can be done quickly should be done first. Sometimes it can be hard to let clutter go, it is advisable to go through clutter and clarify how it is useful to you right now. Get rid of anything that doesn’t have a clear purpose.TIP: Ask yourself: Am I going to use this in the near future? When was the last time I needed this? If I keep this what is it organised into? A useful method of categorising clutter is the three boxes method, they are labelled: Keep, donate and trash. Boxes labelled keep are for items you would like to keep or even put away for safe keeping. Boxes labelled donate are for items you no need or want and can donate. Trash makes up the rest of the clutter you want to get rid of, these boxes are for items you no longer need nor want but cannot donate. Use the Urgent/Important matrix to decide which items or projects should receive priority. There are only four options in the Urgent/Important matrix: Urgent and important, Urgent but not important, Not urgent but important and not urgent and not important. It is also clever to have a master calendar, we have calendars on all our gadgets for various things and schedules, but we will simplify our lives and be better organised if we have a master calendar. Another clever way to organise is by keeping a to-do list, prioritise items on your to-do list by importance and do quick tasks immediately. Organise your work area so that only current projects are on your desk, this will help organise your work flow. Eat the frog – do the thing you hate doing the most first, it’s downhill from there. We end off our course by discussing distractions and how to deal with them, and lastly we have a word on staying organised – by forming habits and being disciplined. 1. Introduction
