    Interpersonal Skills Course

    Introduction

A precursor to our face-to-face communication course, this course covers the basics in communication and ways to improve skills you already have.

    Course Outline:

Some people are lucky and are born with the gift of the gab. The other 99% percent of us, have to really work on our people skills and our interactions with people if we are to benefit anything from them. We offer a workshop on interpersonal skills and at the end of the workshop, participants will have left the caterpillar behind them and will float around like butterflies. If you think you need to do this course; here’s what’s in it. Firstly we teach participants the difference between hearing and listening. We pay attention to non-verbal cues or body-language and show participants what the signals of their own bodies are sending. The first thing you need to do is create a great first impression. We will give you the tools to make a confident, enthusiastic and unforgettable first impression. We will teach you how to create a powerful introduction and if you’re introducing yourself to a group of people you’ve never met before we’ll show how to remember names using mnemonics and what to do should the unforgivable happen and you do forget a name.

TIP: If you forget a name, try to get someone else to talk to the person concerned so that you can hear the name. If that fails subtly ask the person next to you for the name. A variation of this is to ask for their business card. You could also introduce a friend, compelling them to say their name. If all else fails, come clean. Apologise and say you remember their face but not their name. We give you tools to start a conversation and teach you the four levels of conversations something we dealt with in a previous workshop as well.

We discuss the art of small talk and show you how to move the conversation beyond small talk. We show you how to stay in control of the conversation by asking for examples and by using repetition, also by using summary questions. We discuss influencing how the other side feels about certain topics and tips you can use to bring them to your viewpoint. Things like showing empathy and building on common ground. When you want people to understand your point of view, it helps to add emotion with plenty of facts. We round off the workshop on two important points, firstly is sharing your opinion and getting others to agree with you. The second is the basics of negotiation, which includes bargaining and closing.

Key outcomes of the course include:
