Training Advice
Learning and Development Facilitator – SP-220319 (5 days)
Turn your subject experts and trainers into qualified facilitators who plan, run and improve learning sessions that work for adults – with a QCTO certificate at NQF Level 5.
Most workplace training is delivered by people who know their subject but were never taught how adults learn. This accredited facilitator course – the QCTO Occupational Skills Programme: Learning and Development Facilitator (SP-220319, NQF Level 5, 36 credits) – teaches your trainers, team leaders and subject experts to plan, select and adapt learning resources and to facilitate learning in an occupational context.
The programme is built from four modules of the Occupational Certificate: Training and Development Practitioner. Learners first see how the skills development system works – SAQA, the NQF, the QCTO, the SETAs and the levy – and then spend most of the time on facilitation itself: profiling a target group, choosing an intervention, using a range of techniques, managing group dynamics and the learning environment, and reflecting on their own performance.
Practice comes first. Learners facilitate short sessions during the contact days and get feedback; after the five contact days each learner prepares and facilitates a real session in a workplace under guidance. The programme ends in a Final Integrated Supervised Assessment (FISA), set, run and moderated by BOTI under QCTO rules.

How it is delivered
Five contact days, 08:30-16:00, followed by the workplace module (8 credits, about 80 hours of work) in which each learner prepares and facilitates a real learning session in their own organisation or a host workplace, under guidance. The contact days run at your offices anywhere in South Africa, at BOTI's venue in Sunningdale, Johannesburg, or live online, for one learner or a group of up to about 20. Learner material and the portfolio of evidence guide are provided. BOTI enrols each learner with the QCTO within five days of the start of training, and the final assessment – a practical assessment with questions on the underlying knowledge – follows once all modules are complete.

Frequently asked questions
Is this facilitator course accredited?
Yes. It is a QCTO occupational skills programme (SP-220319, NQF Level 5, 36 credits), and BOTI is accredited by the QCTO to deliver it (07-QCTO/SDP091026125823, valid to 30 September 2031). The QCTO issues the certificate to learners who pass the final assessment. The last date for enrolment is 2 March 2028.
How is it different from a train-the-trainer short course?
A short train-the-trainer course builds practical facilitation skills and ends with a BOTI certificate of attendance. This programme covers the same craft in more depth, adds a facilitated workplace session and a final assessment, and earns 36 credits on the NQF.
Who can enrol?
Learners need an NQF Level 4 qualification with Communication, or access through recognition of prior learning, and a workplace where they can facilitate a real session during the workplace module.
How is it assessed?
Each module ends with a formal assessment set by BOTI. Learners who pass them all take the Final Integrated Supervised Assessment: a practical facilitation task with questions on the underlying knowledge. It is supervised, and an online assessment is recorded.
Does it count towards a full qualification?
Yes. The modules come from the Training and Development Practitioner occupational certificate, which carries 190 credits at NQF Level 5, so the 36 credits can count towards it under the QCTO's credit accumulation and transfer rules.
