Training Advice
Business Writing and Records (Unit Standards 12153 + 110009) (3 days)
Staff who write clear, correct business documents in plain language and keep the organisation's records, confidential documents and stationery under control – with 9 accredited credits.
Unclear documents and poorly kept records cost organisations time, money and sometimes their reputation. This accredited business writing course combines two unit standards, each taught and assessed on its own: unit standard 12153 on the writing process (NQF Level 4, 5 credits) and unit standard 110009 on managing administration records (NQF Level 4, 4 credits). Both sit in BOTI's Services SETA accreditation for the FETC: Business Administration Services (SAQA ID 61595).
Days one and two follow unit standard 12153 from start to finish: the conventions of business texts, gathering the right information for the reader, writing a first draft in plain language, restructuring and editing it, and presenting a final, proofread document.
Day three follows unit standard 110009: handling confidential information, controlling the ordering and use of office stationery, and applying agreed control measures when things go wrong. Delegates leave with documents and control tools they can use at work the next day.
