Training Advice
Tender for Business or Work (Unit Standard 119712) (3 days)
Small-business owners and staff who find the right tenders, decide which are worth pursuing, price the work properly and submit compliant bids on time – with 8 accredited credits.
Many small businesses lose tenders not on price or quality but because they chased the wrong tender, misread the requirements or missed a closing date. This accredited tender for business course covers unit standard 119712 (NQF Level 3, 8 credits), an elective in the National Certificate: New Venture Creation (SMME) (SAQA ID 49648), which BOTI delivers under its Services SETA accreditation.
Day one sets up a system for finding tender work that fits the business plan, follows the steps for obtaining tender documents, and reviews each tender against the venture's opportunities, risks and capacity – including when to bid as a joint venture with other small firms and when to bring in outside help.
Day two is the heart of the bid: extracting information from briefing sessions and tender documents, listing the requirements, breaking the work into items, calculating unit costs, adding a profit mark-up and completing the schedule of quantities. Day three covers final compliance checks and submitting the tender in the time, manner and format required, with a full practice tender.
