Run a Scrum team with confidence – facilitating the events, removing impediments and guiding a project from vision to release – and earn the SMC certification.
A Scrum team without a capable Scrum Master soon slides back into old habits: stand-ups turn into status meetings, impediments sit unresolved and sprints overrun. This two-day scrum master training prepares team leaders and project managers to take on the role properly, as the servant-leader who keeps the team focused, unblocked and improving.
The course covers the full SCRUMstudy SBOK Guide framework from the Scrum Master's point of view. Day one builds the foundation: the principles, the roles, the aspects of business justification, quality, change and risk, and the initiate and plan-and-estimate phases, including user stories, story points and planning poker. Day two follows the work through implementation, review, retrospective and release, and shows how Scrum scales across several teams with a Scrum of Scrums.
A running case study ties the processes together, so delegates practise the facilitation, coaching and conflict-handling skills the role depends on. The Scrum Master Certified (SMC) exam is written online at the end of day two, and the exam voucher is included in the course price.

How it is delivered
Two days, 08:30-16:00, with the online SMC exam at the end of day two. In person at your offices anywhere in South Africa, at a BOTI venue, or live online. One delegate or a group of up to 20; the case study can be tailored to your projects. Course notes and case-study materials included. Each delegate needs a laptop with internet access for the exam – BOTI can supply laptops at an extra cost. We deliver it at your offices in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town and anywhere else in South Africa, at a BOTI venue in Johannesburg, or live online for teams in different places.

Frequently asked questions
Is the SMC exam included?
Yes. The exam voucher is included in the course price. The exam is written online at the end of day two: 100 multiple-choice questions in 120 minutes, with no negative marking.
Do delegates need Scrum experience first?
There are no formal prerequisites. Delegates who have never worked with Scrum may want to start with the one-day Scrum Fundamentals Certified course.
Can you run it at our offices, and for how many people?
Yes. We train at your premises anywhere in South Africa, at a BOTI venue or live online, for one delegate or a group of up to 20.
Is it accredited?
No – it is a non-accredited short course. Delegates receive a BOTI certificate of attendance and, if they pass, the international SMC certification. For a credit-bearing route, ask us about the QCTO Occupational Certificate: Project Manager.
Should we choose Scrum Master or Product Owner?
Scrum Master is for the person who facilitates the team and the process. Scrum Product Owner Certified (2 days) is for the person who decides what gets built and in what order. Many organisations train one of each.
