Managing a Unit’s Finances and Assets (Unit Standards 252040 + 13945) (3 days)
Managers who read financial statements with confidence, build budgets and forecasts that match the unit's plans, keep spending on track, and protect the unit's stock and fixed assets – with 10 accredited credits.
Managers are often made responsible for a budget long before anyone shows them how to read the numbers behind it. This accredited managerial finance course combines two unit standards, each taught and assessed on its own: unit standard 252040 on managing the finances of a unit (NQF Level 5, 8 credits), part of the National Certificate: Generic Management (SAQA ID 59201), and unit standard 13945 on managing stock and fixed assets in a business unit (NQF Level 4, 2 credits), part of the FETC: Business Administration Services (SAQA ID 61595). BOTI delivers both under its Services SETA accreditation.
Days one and two follow unit standard 252040: the accounting cycle, accounting conventions and your organisation's own financial reports, interpreting financial statements with profitability, liquidity, working capital and return ratios, preparing and testing financial forecasts, drafting a budget linked to the unit's operational plan, and monitoring spending so that corrective action comes early.
Day three follows unit standard 13945: the difference between fixed assets and stock, how stock control protects profit, stock turnover and the economic order quantity, the asset register and depreciation, and a plan to manage the risks to stock and assets.
