Analysing Financial Information (Unit Standards 252036 + 117156) (3 days)

Managers who collect and organise financial and economic data, analyse it with sound mathematical techniques, present it clearly in graphs, and read financial statements well enough to base decisions on them – with 10 accredited credits.

Numbers only help a manager when they are collected properly, analysed correctly and presented so that others understand them. This accredited financial analysis course combines two unit standards, each taught and assessed on its own: unit standard 252036 on applying mathematical analysis to economic and financial information (NQF Level 5, 6 credits), part of the National Certificate: Generic Management (SAQA ID 59201), and unit standard 117156 on interpreting basic financial statements (NQF Level 4, 4 credits), part of the FETC: New Venture Creation (SAQA ID 66249). BOTI delivers both under its Services SETA accreditation.

Days one and two follow unit standard 252036: choosing how to collect and record financial and demographic data for a unit, working out averages, standard deviations and lines of best fit, calculating the time value of money, and showing results and economic relationships in graphs that support sound projections.

Day three follows unit standard 117156: the income and expenditure statement, the balance sheet, a personal statement of assets and liabilities, and drawing on the statements to decide what to do about costs, income, ratios and cash flow.
