Training Advice
Running Effective Meetings (Unit Standards 242816 + 13934) (3 days)
Junior managers and administrators who prepare meetings properly, keep the discussion moving when views differ, and produce agendas and minutes that turn decisions into action – with 9 accredited credits.
Meetings that wander, decisions nobody writes down and minutes that arrive a week late waste hours of management time. This accredited effective meetings course combines two unit standards, each taught and assessed on its own: unit standard 242816 on conducting a structured meeting (NQF Level 4, 5 credits), part of the FETC: Generic Management (SAQA ID 57712), and unit standard 13934 on planning and preparing meeting communications (NQF Level 3, 4 credits), part of the National Certificate: Business Administration Services (SAQA ID 67465) and the National Certificate: New Venture Creation (SMME) (SAQA ID 49648). BOTI delivers both under its Services SETA accreditation.
Days one and two follow unit standard 242816 from the chair's side of the table: the preparation checklist, the agenda and the roles of participants, running the meeting so that everyone can contribute, techniques that unblock a discussion when opinions clash, and records that make sure decisions are carried out.
Day three follows unit standard 13934 from the secretary's side: building an agenda in a logical order, the kinds of minutes and what they are for, and taking concise, accurate minutes that go out in the right format and on time.
