Content is King:  This ‘content’ catchphrase has been widely used in the past few years and is not expected to disappear any time soon.  As the cliché now goes, ‘content is key’ and a good content strategy is essential to success in a digital marketing society.

Repurposing Content:  Repurposing content is the process whereby old content is recycled and given a fresh look to extend the lifespan and value of previously created content.  This is a widely used tactic in content marketing strategies.

Above the Fold: This term refers to where content is placed on your webpage.  The general guideline to apply when placing content above the fold is that visitors should not need to scroll down the page to find what it is that you have to offer once they have landed on your page.

Algorithms:  Algorithms are similar to recipes and are essentially formulas that include a set of different variables used by search engines when they crawl your website to establish how your page should rank in terms of search results.  Facebook is known to consistently change its algorithms.

Jpeg files or images:  Wikipedia defines this basic file format as: ‘The JPEG standard codec, which defines how an image is compressed into a stream of bytes and decompressed back into an image, but not the file format used to contain that stream.   The Exif and JFIF standards define the commonly used file formats for interchange of JPEG-compressed images.’  JPEG files are commonly used to upload images to online marketing platforms or send via email.

GIF:  Graphic information file

PNG: Portable network graphic

Brand Identity:  The brand identity is the persona and reputation your company creates and establishes using various elements such as voice, colour or logo.  The value of your brand identity should never be underestimated.

KPI:  KPI stands for Key Performance Indicators and refers to goals set as a form of measurement used to evaluate performance.  It is a common, long-standing marketing metric.

Thought Leader:  Many aspiring marketers seek to become a thought leader in their respective industries and in so doing establish a certain point of authority.  Some tactics used to promote thought leadership involve the publication of credible communication pieces in prominent magazines and professional journals.

Long-Tail Keywords:  Essentially, long-tail keywords are search queries that contain three keywords or more.  For example, a regular keyword for Amazon might be ‘Amazon’ but a long-tail keyword might be ‘online book stores’.  Generally, all types of keywords may be used with the goal of casting the net as wide as possible in order to effectively reach customers.

Meta Description:  A meta description is a text summary of what is on your webpage.
