Almost everyone is back at work this week. So I thought I would draw-up a quick list of 10 New-Year-Work Resolutions to improve your career, work life and ultimately your happiness (Work Life Balance).
- Appreciate your job
No matter what job you have, you are in a better position than 28% of the population in South Africa, who don’t have a job. Congratulate yourself and enjoy the fact that you lucky enough to have one! Having such an attitude will not only improve your mood but will aid your career. Work Life Balance is also key.

- Continually learn
We are living in a changing environment. To stay relevant, you need to learn, learn, learn, learn… (please see our attached list of courses.) and click on our public course schedule. Work Life Balance is also key.
- Set Clear Goals
You need to set both long-term and short-term goals and continually measure progress. Try adding a goal relating to charity and helping those around you.
- Master Time Management
Last year, just flew by. Time just seems to vanish. Added to this, we all don’t have enough time to do everything in the day. We have to manage our time like gold and appreciate every minute. Click here to see out time management course.
- Learn to Delegate Appropriately
Maximize your resources around you. Although sometimes we think that only we can do a specific job, very often we are wrong. Empowering others to do the task frees you up and allows you to focus on other important tasks
- Overcome Weaknesses
We all have weaknesses whether it is anger management, stress management problems, poor attention to detail… use 2018 as the year to conquer them
- Exercise, Diet and Health
Schedule time for exercise, eat right and look after your health. To perform well at work, you need to be healthy. We only have one body!
- Be innovative
Improve processes around you by being innovative. We all have this ability to learn this (click here). This is a definite way to be noticed and improve your career.
- Maintain work life balance
We may think that pushing ourselves to the extreme is best for the company. Remember that even the best athlete needs to rest at times to perform at their best and to recharge. Work life balance is key.
- Learn stress coping mechanisms
Yes 2018 will come with various challenges and problems. You are doing your company and yourself a disservice by not dealing appropriately with stress. Work Life Balance is also key.
Action time
I could go on for hours with lists of tips and resolutions however the most important thing is to focus on all or a few of the above resolutions and not just think or dream about them . Pin this email up and action the above steps one at a time.
Let 2018 be the year where all our resolutions are achieved!
