At the end of this workshop you should be able to identify succession planning and its role in your company. Lay the foundation to a succession plan. Recognise the importance of mentorship. Anticipate obstacles, and evaluate and adapt goals and plans.

Business Succession Planning Course

We will begin, in the Business Succession Planning Course, with preparing for the planning process; this includes setting parameters for your company, establishing the need for a committee, and gathering operational data. We then begin to initiate the process by firstly developing a mission statement and secondly, developing a vision statement. It is important that every employee knows the mission and the vision of their company. We also address the issue of mentoring and whether it’s relevant or beneficial to your company.

TIP:  Use the SWOT method for succession planning; you identify Strengths; Weaknesses; Opportunities and Threats.

We will take a comprehensive look into what goes into succession planning in the Business Succession Planning Course, and we will help you identify the criteria to prioritize and implement your succession plan. We help you to identify goals and objectives and how to set them; we will help you to develop a strategy for achieving goals. And then we will help our participants draft a plan. Again this is an activities orientated workshop where we practice and implement what we learn in the workshop in order for participants to go back to their workplaces with some idea of how it works in reality.

We spend module nine managing change. We assist participants in developing a change management plan. The next thing we do is develop a communication plan, this is important as it keeps all employees in the loop. Employees who see managers invested in change are more productive and more loyal, because change affects everyone, even the lowest guy or girl on the totem pole can see their own improvement in a succession plan.

We spend the last two modules in the Business Succession Planning Course, at the end of the workshop focusing on obstacles to change and how to overcome them. The last topic for discussion is achieving success with your plan.
