Supply Chain Management Course (1 day)
Managers see the whole supply chain they work in and can cut cost, excess stock and delays without letting customers down.
Every late delivery, stock-out and shelf of slow-moving stock starts somewhere upstream: a weak forecast, a supplier who was never told about a promotion, an order that sat in someone's inbox. This one-day supply chain management course gives managers and supervisors a clear picture of how goods, information and money move from supplier to customer, and where cost and delay creep in along the way.
The day covers the language of supply chain, the strategic, tactical and operational levels, the plan-source-make-deliver-return model and the bullwhip effect. Delegates then work on inventory – stock levels, carrying cost, just-in-time and record accuracy – followed by tracking tools such as dashboards, SKUs, barcodes and RFID, and how to set alerts that warn of trouble before customers feel it.
It is practical throughout. Delegates map a supply chain from their own workplace, work through a simple stock calculation and plan responses to disruptions South African operations know well: load-shedding, port and road delays, and supplier failures. They leave with three improvements they can start the following week.
Why this course
For your organisation
- Lower carrying cost and fewer stock-outs
- Managers who understand the effect of their decisions upstream and downstream
- Earlier warning of supplier and inventory problems
- A shared supply chain vocabulary across purchasing, stores, production and sales
For your delegates
- A clear map of the supply chain you work in
- Simple stock-level and carrying-cost calculations you can reuse
- Practical ways to spot and dampen the bullwhip effect

What delegates will be able to do
- Explain how supply chain decisions affect cost, service and customer satisfaction
- Use core supply chain terms correctly, from procurement and forecasting to returns
- Distinguish strategic, tactical and operational supply chain decisions
- Map the plan, source, make, deliver and return stages for your own operation
- Recognise the bullwhip effect and reduce it through better information sharing
- Set sensible stock levels and work out carrying cost
- Choose tracking measures and alerts that flag problems early
- Plan responses to common disruptions such as supplier failure and power outages
Who should attend
Line managers, supervisors and team leaders in production, operations, warehousing, stores, purchasing, logistics and distribution, plus sales and customer-service leads who depend on reliable supply. No prior supply chain training is needed; some workplace experience of how your organisation buys, stores or delivers goods helps.
