Budgets and Financial Reports Course (1 day)
In one day, staff learn to read the main financial reports and to build and manage a simple budget.
Staff outside the finance department are often handed a budget to manage or a set of financial reports to comment on, without knowing what EBIT, working capital or return on investment mean. This one-day budgets and financial reports course is a fast, activity-based introduction for them.
The morning covers the language of finance and the reports themselves: the statement of financial position, the income statement, the statement of changes in equity, the cash flow statement and the annual report, followed by the key ratios for profitability, liquidity, working capital, solvency and return on investment. The afternoon turns to budgets: the common types, what information you need and who to involve, building a budget from historical data, simple forecasting methods, keeping the budget on track and testing a purchase with payback and lease-versus-buy. It closes with the governance rules South African managers need to know.
It suits administrators and supervisors who want a grounding before moving into finance work, and managers who need a one-day overview.
