Office Politics For Managers Course :Course Outline
Office politics exists in just about every place where multiple are present, different personalities with different opinions make for different perspectives on the same issue. Generally office politics are not conducive to business at all, this is the way rumours and gossip are started. However with this workshop on office politics for managers we invite participants to turn office politics into a positive aspect in their company. We will teach learners how to use office politics to create and maintain better relationships. How to communicate with co-workers in a beneficial way. Those who understand the positive aspects of office politics become better team leaders and are more successful and productive. Beginning the right way is the key, learning the companys core values and vision/mission during onboarding is a common first step. Having this information allows the new employee to build a base of knowledge of the company and how it operates; important points would be what the core values are; how these values are enacted and what kind of results and productivity are valued.TIP: Gossip and rumour in the office should be stopped immediately. One of the best ways to do this is by discrediting the rumour with facts. Gossip is often started through ignorance thus education and information will go a long way to extinguishing it altogether. Pull groups together to talk about the incident. Keep the door open for communication and answer any questions employees may have. Hold weekly meetings to discuss any new rumours and use this as an opportunity to present facts which can stop the spread of gossip and alleviate negativity. Everyone is unique and has their own personality, while many people are tolerable and positive, there will always be people who can bring negativity into the office. Examples of negative people would be the chronic complainer, the bully or the gossiper. We will discuss the best way to handle negative personalities and how to reduce negativity in the office over-all. We will tech participants to use good and honest politics to their advantage, being honest and truthful will build relationships and allow you to get support from the office for your projects. It will not only propel your career forward without burning bridges behind you. Conflict causes stress and emotional pain, thus the quicker it is resolved the better. Resolving conflict enables both parties to feel more empathy for each other. It provides an opportunity for parties to repair their relationship, and allows employees to have active role in conflict resolution.
