Taking Charge as a Team Leader in Achieving Company Goals (Unit Standard 242821)

Team leaders who turn senior management's plans into agreed team targets, win their team's commitment and keep performance on track.

Team leaders and junior managers sit where strategy meets daily work. If they cannot turn management's plans into clear targets and get their team behind them, the plan stalls. This accredited team leader training gives first-line managers the tools to take charge of their team and their tasks. It is aligned to unit standard 242821, Identify responsibilities of a team leader in ensuring that organisational standards are met.

On the first day, delegates clarify their role, their authority, responsibility and accountability, and how and why workers are organised into teams. They cover the management functions – planning, leading, organising, co-ordinating and controlling – and learn to see their team as one part of a wider system. They also practise problem solving, decision making and collecting, organising and critically evaluating the information they need.

The second day is about follow-through. Delegates agree tasks, performance plans, targets and standards with team members, plan timing through consultation, and communicate so the team commits to the plan. They then monitor outputs against targets and time, spot variances early and take corrective action – including dealing with conflict. The course ends with BOTI's accredited assessment against the unit standard.
