Personal Effectiveness at Work (Unit Standard 110021) (2 days)

Administrators who plan and prioritise their own work, keep their commitments to colleagues and customers, and run filing systems that are accurate, secure and easy to use – with 6 accredited credits.

In administration, effectiveness comes down to three habits: planning the work, working well with other people and keeping information where it can be found. This accredited personal effectiveness course covers unit standard 110021 (NQF Level 4, 6 credits), a core unit standard of the Further Education and Training Certificate: Business Administration Services (SAQA ID 61595), which BOTI delivers under its Services SETA accreditation.

Day one covers planning and people: the people, legislation and documents in the delegate's business environment, planning aids such as diaries, schedules and action plans, prioritising routine and unexpected tasks and raising deadline problems early; then teamwork, conflict, communication styles, confidentiality and keeping commitments to colleagues and customers.

Day two is about files and records: filing new documents, tracking files that are taken out, keeping records for as long as the law and the organisation require, dealing with outdated information in manual and computerised systems, and suggesting improvements. Delegates finish with a workplace case study and prepare their portfolio of evidence.
