If your team’s Excel skills need work first, consider these before or alongside Power BI:

Please note that BOTI is a training company. We teach your staff to build and maintain their own Power BI reports; we do not provide Power BI consulting or build dashboards for clients.

Accreditation
Microsoft Power BI is a vendor product skill. This course is a practical, facilitator-led programme, not a qualification.

Skills development planning and B-BBEE
Power BI training can form part of your annual skills development plan. A few facts help with planning:
- Skills Development Levy (SDL): employers pay SDL to SARS at 1% of the leviable amount (total remuneration).[1] Employers whose leviable amount over the next 12 months will not exceed R500,000 are exempt.[1] The levy is paid over to the system, not spent directly by the employer.
- Mandatory grant: an employer can claim back 20% of the levies paid as a mandatory grant. To qualify, submit the Workplace Skills Plan and Annual Training Report to your SETA by 30 April and keep your levy payments up to date.[2] Listing planned training such as Power BI in your WSP keeps your records consistent.
- B-BBEE skills development: under the amended generic Codes, the skills development target is 6% of the leviable amount. That is 3.5% on learning programmes for black people plus 2.5% on bursaries for black students at higher education institutions.[3] Sector codes may differ. Whether specific training spend is recognised depends on how it is recorded and verified, so BOTI does not promise points.
- In-house efficiency: training a group in one session is usually a more efficient use of a training budget than sending people on individual courses.
