Production and Operations for a New Venture (Unit Standard 263434) (2 days)
Entrepreneurs and small-business managers who lay out their operation for smooth workflow, schedule work to avoid bottlenecks, control their resources and set the quality standards their customers expect – with 6 accredited credits.
A new venture can have a great product and still fail because work piles up, stock runs out or quality slips. This accredited operations management course covers unit standard 263434 (NQF Level 4, 6 credits), a core unit standard of the Further Education and Training Certificate: New Venture Creation (SAQA ID 66249), which BOTI delivers under its Services SETA accreditation.
Day one covers productivity, layout and scheduling: what productivity means for a small business competing for customers, the elements of a production or service process, an office or production layout that keeps work flowing, and capacity matched to market potential within the limits of skills, finance, equipment and technology. Delegates then plan the scheduling of staff, stock orders, deliveries and maintenance, and learn to find and remove bottlenecks.
Day two deals with resources and quality: record-keeping systems to control stock, equipment, buildings, capital and people, a maintenance system that keeps the business competitive, and quality standards and measurement tools based on what the target market requires.
