Building Teams to Achieve Goals (Unit Standard 252037) (2 days)
Managers who understand how teams form and work, lead them through conflict and change, and measure and raise their team's effectiveness – with 6 accredited credits at management level.
Putting people in the same department does not make them a team. This accredited team building course for managers covers unit standard 252037 (NQF Level 5, 6 credits), part of the National Certificate: Generic Management (SAQA ID 59201), which BOTI delivers under its Services SETA accreditation. It is written for heads of department, section heads and divisional heads who may lead more than one team.
Day one covers the theory and practice of teams: how a team differs from a group, the types of teams and what each contributes, the dynamics and sources of conflict inside teams, the particular challenges of cross-functional and virtual teams, and the stages a team goes through as it develops.
Day two turns to the manager: the team leader's role in effectiveness, the effect of different leadership styles, techniques that build trust, cohesion, creativity and productivity, and an evaluation of a real team against the features of high-performance teams, ending in an action plan for improvement.
