Training Advice
Analysing Media Developments for Business (Unit Standard 13943) (3 days)
Staff who follow the news with a business eye, rank what matters for their sector, and turn reports on politics, technology, the environment and labour into clear, reasoned recommendations – with 10 accredited credits.
Changes in law, technology, the environment and labour relations reach every business through the news long before they reach the bottom line. This accredited media analysis course covers unit standard 13943 (NQF Level 4, 10 credits), part of the Further Education and Training Certificate: Business Administration Services (SAQA ID 61595) and the National Certificate: Management (SAQA ID 83946), which BOTI delivers under its Services SETA accreditation.
Day one teaches delegates to build and work with a media file for their own sector: collecting national and global reports, summarising what each could mean for the sector, ranking events by importance, forming and defending a view on controversial issues, and reading political and legislative news for its business impact.
Day two turns to new technology and to proposed developments that affect the physical environment, including their pros and cons, likely timing, sustainability and value to the organisation. Day three covers labour news: wage negotiations, strikes and protests, the role of unions, job losses and the impact of HIV and AIDS on the sector.
