Training Advice
Coaching First-Line Managers (Unit Standard 252035) (3 days)
Senior managers who choose the right people for first-line management roles, coach them against clear key result areas, and track the results until the gains stick – with 8 accredited credits.
First-line managers make or break day-to-day results, yet many are promoted for their technical skill and then left to work out management on their own. This accredited coaching course for managers covers unit standard 252035 (NQF Level 5, 8 credits), part of the National Certificate: Generic Management (SAQA ID 59201), which BOTI delivers under its Services SETA accreditation.
Day one starts before the coaching does: analysing the job profile of a first-line management post, setting weighted selection criteria for its key result areas, working with the recruitment function, and shortlisting and appointing the right candidate. Delegates then draw up a coaching plan and schedule, and a simple way of recording what is discussed and agreed.
Day two is the coaching itself, practised in role plays: agreeing the process with the manager, discussing performance against key result areas, closing gaps through an action plan and giving honest, supportive feedback. Day three covers follow-up: checking agreed actions, recognising progress, correcting what has slipped, and getting line managers to coach their own teams.
