Six Sigma Course in Pretoria

Six Sigma training teaches staff a data-driven method for cutting errors, delays and rework in repeatable processes. BOTI runs Lean Six Sigma training for Pretoria teams at Yellow, Green and Black Belt level. It is delivered in-house at your premises, from Centurion to Hatfield to Menlyn, at BOTI’s venue in Sunningdale, Johannesburg, or live online. Browse the full range in our project management, agile and process improvement courses.

When the training runs at your offices, your staff practise on your own workflows, forms and bottlenecks rather than a generic case study. The course suits government departments, state-owned entities and private firms across Tshwane. To arrange a session, request a quote or call 011 882 8853, and we will scope group size, delivery location and dates for your Pretoria team.

Why Lean Six Sigma matters in Pretoria

Pretoria is the administrative capital and the centre of the public-sector hub of Tshwane. It is home to national government departments, embassies and many state-owned entities (SOEs). These organisations depend on repeatable processes: procurement cycles, service-delivery turnaround, case backlogs, grant disbursement and compliance reporting. Lean Six Sigma is designed for this kind of work, because it reduces waste, variation and delay in processes that run again and again.

That makes Pretoria different from a manufacturing-led city. Here, the need comes less from factory floors and more from administrative and service processes:

  • Government & public sector: departments and municipalities under pressure to improve service-delivery turnaround and cut waste in administrative processes.
  • State-owned entities: utilities, transport and infrastructure SOEs that need defect reduction, cost control and measurable process discipline.
  • Professional & financial services: the firms clustered around Hatfield and Menlyn that support government and corporate clients.
  • Tech, ICT & corporate parks: the Centurion corridor, where SOEs, ICT firms and head offices run operational and back-office functions.

Lean Six Sigma training gives your staff a shared, data-driven method (DMAIC) for fixing recurring problems, so they spend less time firefighting the same issues.

In-house, on-site delivery across Pretoria

For Pretoria clients, the usual model is in-house training at your premises: your offices in Centurion, Hatfield, Menlyn, the Tshwane CBD or wherever your team works. This suits public-sector and SOE clients who prefer to keep staff on site and to work with real internal process examples.

You choose how it runs:

Delivery option Suited to How it works
On-site at your premises Whole teams / departments We bring the trainer to your Pretoria office; exercises use your own processes
At BOTI’s venue Mixed-site or smaller groups Held at BOTI’s training venue in Sunningdale, Johannesburg
Live online Distributed or hybrid teams Live, trainer-led sessions for staff across Tshwane and beyond

Because we use your procurement forms, service requests or reporting cycles as practice material, staff scope an improvement project during the course that they can take back to their desks.

What the course teaches

Lean Six Sigma combines Lean, which removes waste and improves flow, with Six Sigma, which uses data to reduce variation and defects. Training follows the DMAIC cycle (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control) and is offered at three belt levels:

For a shorter introduction for managers and team members, there is also Lean Process and Six Sigma Training (2 days).

Core skills covered include:

  • Identifying the 8 wastes in administrative and service processes
  • Process mapping, value-stream mapping and SIPOC
  • Voice of the Customer, and turning it into measurable requirements
  • Basic statistics, data collection and root-cause analysis
  • Planning and running a structured improvement project from start to finish
  • Control plans that keep improvements in place

Who should attend

This course suits Pretoria-based:

  • HR and L&D managers building internal process-improvement capability
  • Operations, service-delivery and back-office managers
  • Public-sector and SOE staff responsible for turnaround, compliance or quality
  • Project, procurement and finance teams
  • Anyone who runs or supports a team that wants to cut delays, errors and rework

No manufacturing background is needed. The methods apply directly to government and service environments.

Accreditation

BOTI’s Lean Six Sigma training is a practical, facilitator-led programme. Delegates receive a BOTI certificate of attendance, not an accredited qualification. BOTI is a QCTO-accredited Skills Development Provider. If your team needs an accredited route, see our QCTO occupational certificates, and we can recommend an option when you request your quote.

Skills Development and B-BBEE planning

For Pretoria employers, Lean Six Sigma training can also fit into skills development planning:

  • Skills Development Levy (SDL): employers pay SDL at 1% of the leviable amount (total remuneration)[1]. Employers whose leviable amount over the next 12 months will not exceed R500,000 are exempt[1].
  • Workplace Skills Plan: planned training belongs in your Workplace Skills Plan and Annual Training Report. Your SETA pays the mandatory grant (20% of levies paid) when these are submitted by 30 April and your levies are up to date[2].
  • B-BBEE skills development element: under the amended generic Codes, the overall skills development target is 6% of the leviable amount. This is made up of 3.5% on learning programmes for black people and 2.5% on bursaries for black students at higher education institutions[3]. Sector codes may differ. Spend on training black employees, including Lean Six Sigma, may count towards the learning programmes target, but the outcome depends on your verification.

This is general guidance to help you plan, not financial or legal advice. Confirm the specifics with your Skills Development Facilitator, accountant or B-BBEE verification agency. BOTI can help you schedule the training so that it fits your annual training plan.

Frequently asked questions

What is Six Sigma training?

Six Sigma training teaches staff a data-driven method, DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control), for reducing defects and variation in repeatable processes. Lean Six Sigma adds Lean tools for removing waste and delay. It suits government, service and office teams as much as factories.

Where in Pretoria do you deliver Lean Six Sigma training?

BOTI delivers in-house at your premises anywhere in Pretoria and the greater Tshwane area, including Centurion, Hatfield, Menlyn and the CBD. Training can also run at BOTI’s venue in Sunningdale, Johannesburg, or live online for distributed teams.

Which belt level should our team start with?

Many teams start with Yellow Belt for broad awareness, then send selected staff to Green Belt to run projects. Black Belt suits those who will drive larger initiatives and coach others. We can advise based on your goals when you request a quote.

Is the Six Sigma course accredited?

No. BOTI’s Lean Six Sigma training is a practical, facilitator-led programme, and delegates receive a BOTI certificate of attendance rather than an accredited qualification. Each Lean Six Sigma belt course (Yellow, Green and Black Belt) also includes an international certification exam, written online in class at the end of the course. If you need an accredited route, ask BOTI about its QCTO occupational certificates and skills programmes, and we will recommend an option for your group.

Can Six Sigma training count towards B-BBEE and Skills Development?

Training can be recorded in your Workplace Skills Plan and Annual Training Report. Spend on learning programmes for black employees may count under the skills development element of the B-BBEE scorecard. Whether it scores, and how much, depends on your verification and any sector code, so BOTI cannot promise points. Confirm the details with your Skills Development Facilitator or verification agency.
