Health and Wellness at Work Training (1 day)

HR and wellness teams leave with a practical plan for an employee wellness programme that people use and that shows measurable results.

Absenteeism, presenteeism, rising medical-aid costs and burnout all land on the same desk. Many South African employers run a wellness day once a year and wonder why nothing changes. A well-designed employee wellness programme works differently: it starts from the real health needs of your workforce, runs all year and is measured like any other business initiative.

This one-day course takes HR practitioners, wellness committees and managers through the whole cycle. Delegates look at the business case – productivity, absence and health costs – and the main types of programme: healthy-behaviour programmes such as physical activity, nutrition, stopping smoking and substance-abuse support; health screenings and check-ups; mental-health support; and injury prevention. They then work through assessing need, setting goals and a budget, forming a committee, winning management support, piloting, communicating and choosing incentives.

The afternoon covers building a culture of wellness – healthy food options, proper breaks, smoke-, alcohol- and drug-free policies and removing hazards – and evaluating results. Delegates leave with a draft wellness plan for their own organisation. Because health information from screenings is special personal information under POPIA, the course also shows how to keep it confidential and report it only in aggregate.

    Frequently asked questions

Can you run this course at our offices?

Yes. Most groups are trained at the client's premises anywhere in South Africa; we can also host it at a BOTI venue or deliver it live online.

Is this a personal wellness course?

It is mainly for the people who plan and run wellness programmes. Delegates pick up useful personal habits along the way, but individuals who want help with their own balance may prefer the Work-Life Balance Course or the Increasing Your Happiness Course.

Does BOTI provide the health screenings?

No. The course covers how to plan screenings and source them from your medical aid or a wellness provider; BOTI does not carry out screenings.

    Is it accredited?

No – it is a non-accredited short course and delegates receive a BOTI certificate of attendance.

Can it be tailored to our workforce?

Yes. Shift-based, field, office and mixed workforces need a different mix of activities. Send us a short workforce profile and the facilitator adapts the examples and the planning exercise.

Can you run this course in Johannesburg, Cape Town or Durban?

Yes. We train on site at your offices in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town and across South Africa, at a BOTI venue in Johannesburg, or live online so a team spread over several offices can attend together.
