CorelDRAW for Beginners Course (2 days)

New users produce clean logos, flyers and simple graphics in CorelDRAW instead of waiting for a designer or an agency.

In many offices one person knows CorelDRAW and everyone else waits for them – or sends small jobs such as a flyer, a sign or a logo tweak to an outside designer. This CorelDRAW course for beginners gives staff the core skills to handle that everyday work themselves, using the vector tools signwriters, printers and marketing teams across South Africa rely on.

Over two days delegates build up from a blank page. Day one covers the workspace, drawing and arranging objects, outlines and fills, text and the shaping tools that turn simple shapes into a logo. Day two adds the interactive effects – blend, contour, envelope, drop shadow, transparency and extrude – plus text effects, PowerClip, importing images, a quick trace of a simple logo and laying out a multi-page document, finishing with saving and exporting files for print and the web.

The course is practical from the first hour. Each skill is shown, then practised, and the second afternoon is spent on short projects: a logo, a business card, a flyer and a social media graphic. Bring your own logo or brand colours and the exercises can use them.

    Why this course

    For your organisation

    • Routine design jobs handled in-house instead of sent out
    • Faster turnaround on flyers, signs and internal notices
    • Artwork that follows your brand colours and fonts
    • A foundation your team can build on with the intermediate course

    For your delegates

    • Confidence with the CorelDRAW workspace and core tools
    • A set of finished practice pieces: logo, business card, flyer and social graphic
    • Know-how to save and export files a printer or website will accept
    • Course notes and practice files to keep

What delegates will be able to do

    • Find their way around the CorelDRAW workspace, toolbox and dockers
    • Draw, select, transform, group and arrange objects accurately
    • Apply outlines and uniform, fountain and pattern fills
    • Set and style artistic and paragraph text, including text on a path
    • Combine shapes with weld, trim and intersect to build logos
    • Apply blend, contour, envelope, drop shadow, transparency and extrude effects
    • Place images inside shapes with PowerClip
    • Save and export artwork in the right format for print or the web

    Who should attend

Administrators, marketing assistants, sales support, small business owners, signage and print shop staff and anyone who needs to produce simple graphics in CorelDRAW. No design or CorelDRAW experience is needed; delegates should be comfortable using a computer.
