Training Advice
Microsoft SharePoint Site Owner for Microsoft 365 (2 days)
Plan, build and look after SharePoint sites that people can find their way around – with the right people having the right access.
Most organisations on Microsoft 365 already have SharePoint, but sites tend to grow without a plan: dozens of disconnected team sites, documents nobody can find, lists full of inconsistent entries and sharing links that reach further than anyone intended. This SharePoint site owner training is for the people who build and look after those sites. It goes well beyond everyday use and teaches the decisions and settings that keep an intranet organised and secure.
Day one plans and builds a multi-site intranet: team and communication sites, a hub site for shared navigation, search and theme, custom page templates, importing content into libraries and lists, column validation and calculated columns for clean data entry, and a Power Apps form for a SharePoint list. Day two moves to advanced site ownership: custom site templates built from site scripts, managed metadata term sets and content types, metadata-based navigation and filtering, permission levels and inheritance, and access control at site and tenant level.
Delegates practise in Microsoft 365 and leave with a site plan and a permissions checklist for their own intranet, with access to personal information handled with POPIA in mind.
Why this course
For your organisation
- An intranet that is planned, connected and easy to navigate
- Cleaner, more consistent data in SharePoint lists
- Permissions and sharing set deliberately, not by accident
- Less dependence on IT for everyday site changes
For your delegates
- A clear method for planning and building sites
- Practical use of hub sites, templates and content types
- Confidence managing permissions without breaking access
- A first Power Apps form built on a SharePoint list

- Create sites and associate them with a hub for shared navigation, search and theme
- Build custom page templates and manage libraries and lists, including bulk imports
- Improve data entry with column validation, required fields, choices and calculated columns
- Create and modify a Power Apps form for a SharePoint list
- Create a custom site template from a site script
- Set up managed metadata term sets and content types, and use them for navigation and filtering
- Assign permissions, manage inheritance and control access at site and tenant level
Who should attend
Site owners, intranet and knowledge managers, team leaders, project and administration staff who build or manage SharePoint sites, and IT staff who support SharePoint in Microsoft 365. Delegates should already use SharePoint confidently as end users. Some tasks, such as registering hub sites and changing tenant settings, need SharePoint administrator rights; the facilitator demonstrates these where delegates do not have them.

Frequently asked questions
Can you run this course at our offices?
Yes. Most groups are trained at the client's premises anywhere in South Africa; we can also host it at a BOTI venue or deliver it live online.
How many people can attend?
From one delegate to groups of 20. The price per delegate drops as the group grows – see the price table, or ask us for a quote.
Is it accredited?
No – it is a non-accredited short course and delegates receive a BOTI certificate of attendance. No Microsoft exam is included.
How is this different from the SharePoint End User course?
Microsoft SharePoint End User teaches staff to use sites: finding, sharing and working on documents and lists. This course is for the people who build and manage sites: hubs, templates, metadata, permissions and access.
Do delegates need administrator rights?
Most of the work needs site owner rights only. Registering hub sites, deploying site scripts and changing tenant sharing settings need SharePoint administrator rights; where delegates do not have them, the facilitator demonstrates those steps.
Does it cover SharePoint Server 2010 administration?
No. SharePoint 2010 is long out of support. The course covers SharePoint in Microsoft 365 (SharePoint Online), which is what most organisations use today.
