Ask your employer to fund your training
Want to do a course, but can’t pay for it yourself?
Most South African employers can pay for staff training – and many claim part of the cost back. Send this page to your manager or HR department: it explains how, in two minutes.
For managers and HR: how the training can be funded
- Skills development levy and SETA grants. Employers with an annual payroll above R500,000 pay a skills development levy of 1% of payroll. By submitting a Workplace Skills Plan and Annual Training Report to its SETA by 30 April each year, the company can claim back a mandatory grant of 20% of the levy it paid, and apply for discretionary grants for accredited programmes and learnerships.
- B-BBEE points. Spend on training black employees counts towards the skills development element of your B-BBEE scorecard.
- Help with the paperwork. BOTI’s Skills Development Facilitator service can plan and submit the Workplace Skills Plan and Annual Training Report for you.
