    Microsoft OneNote Essentials (1 day)

Delegates leave with a working notebook for a real project or team – organised, searchable, shared and backed up – and the habits to keep every note and action in one place.

Notes from meetings, site visits, phone calls and training sessions end up in paper notebooks, emails, phone photos and loose Word files – and the action from Tuesday's meeting is lost by Friday. This one-day OneNote training gives staff one place for all of it. OneNote comes with Microsoft 365, so most organisations already own it; very few use it well.

Delegates set up a notebook for a real project or team, organise it into sections and pages, and practise capturing notes quickly: typed, handwritten, clipped from the screen, photographed, recorded or attached. They tag action items, pull every open action onto one summary page, build a template for recurring notes such as minutes or site inspections, and share the notebook so colleagues in other offices see the same pages.

The day closes with protecting and finding notes: backups, recovering deleted pages, password-protected sections, export to PDF, search and shortcuts. Everything is hands-on at a computer with South African workplace examples, and delegates leave with a notebook structure they can use the next morning.

    Why this course

    For your organisation

    • Meeting notes, decisions and actions in one shared place instead of scattered across inboxes
    • Project and client notebooks that survive when a staff member leaves
    • Less re-typing: screen clippings, photos, attachments and recordings sit next to the notes
    • Better use of a tool the organisation already pays for in Microsoft 365

    For your delegates

    • A notebook structure set up during the day for your own project or team
    • Faster note-taking with tags, checklists, templates and shortcuts
    • One summary page that lists every open action across all your notes
    • Notes you can find in seconds, on your laptop, phone or in the browser

What delegates will be able to do

    • Set up notebooks, sections, section groups and pages that a team can find their way around
    • Capture meeting notes quickly with styles, lists, tags, checklists and date stamps
    • Insert pictures, screen clippings, file printouts, attachments, tables and links into notes
    • Record audio during a briefing and review it alongside the typed notes
    • Use the Draw tools to sketch, highlight and convert handwriting to text
    • Build and apply page templates for recurring notes such as minutes and site inspections
    • Find anything with search and tags, and pull all open action items onto one summary page
    • Back up, recover, password-protect, export and print notes
    • Work faster with keyboard shortcuts, Quick Notes and pinned pages

    Who should attend

Anyone who takes notes at work and needs to find them again: managers and team leaders, personal and executive assistants, project coordinators, sales and account staff, site and field staff, auditors, trainers and administrators. No previous OneNote experience is needed; delegates should be comfortable using Windows and Microsoft 365.

    Frequently asked questions

Which version of OneNote do you teach?

Do delegates need any OneNote experience?

No. They should be comfortable using Windows and Microsoft 365. The facilitator sets the pace for beginners.

Can you run this course at our offices?

Yes. Most groups are trained at the client's premises anywhere in South Africa; we can also host it at a BOTI venue or deliver it live online. Laptops with the software can be supplied on request.

    How many people can attend?

From one delegate to groups of about 20, each at their own computer. The price per delegate drops as the group grows – see the price table, or ask us for a quote.

    Is it accredited?

No – it is a non-accredited short course and delegates receive a BOTI certificate of attendance.

Is OneNote part of a longer course?

Yes. It is day five of Microsoft Office All-in-One: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote (5 days). It also pairs well with Microsoft Outlook Beginners (1 day) for staff who manage meetings and actions.
