Training Advice
Staff who automate repetitive work, analyse large datasets and build complex documents and presentations – with a QCTO certificate at NQF Level 5.
When staff spend hours formatting long reports by hand, rebuilding the same spreadsheet every month or struggling to make sense of large datasets, the cost adds up. This QCTO skills programme in advanced end user computing – the Occupational Skills Programme: Advanced End User Computing (SP-240203, NQF Level 5, 20 credits) – focuses on high-level word processing, spreadsheets and presentations, in response to growing demand for advanced digital literacy and problem-solving skills.
Learners who have completed the Intermediate programme learn to create and edit complex documents, spreadsheets and presentations, automate tasks, manage and analyse data, and collaborate securely. That means long documents with custom styles, tables of contents, indexes, mail merge and macros; spreadsheets with array and nested formulas, pivot tables, macros and VBA, KPI dashboards, scenario analysis and links to external data; and presentations built for interactivity, remote delivery and accessibility.
It is the third of three QCTO end user computing skills programmes, developed with the MICT SETA as Quality Partner and linked to the occupation Computer Operator. BOTI runs it as practical two-day blocks on the core applications, followed by an integration and assessment block that ends in a written and practical final assessment set, run and moderated by BOTI under QCTO rules. BOTI's accreditation for this QCTO skills programme is awaiting the QCTO's decision. Enrolment opens when accreditation is confirmed; enquiries and bookings for later dates are welcome.

How it is delivered
Ten contact days, 08:30-16:00, in the same shape as the Intermediate programme at advanced level: two-day blocks on the core applications, followed by an integration and assessment block that ends with the final assessment. The blocks can run on consecutive days or be spread out. There is no work-experience module. Training runs at your offices anywhere in South Africa, at BOTI's venue in Sunningdale, Johannesburg, or live online, for one learner or a group of up to about 20. Every learner works on a computer throughout, and the practical assessment also needs a printer and internet access; laptops with the software can be supplied on request. Learner material is provided. Enrolment opens when BOTI's accreditation for the programme is confirmed.
Frequently asked questions
Is BOTI accredited to deliver this programme?
Not yet. Advanced End User Computing is a QCTO occupational skills programme (SP-240203, NQF Level 5, 20 credits), and BOTI's accreditation for it is awaiting the QCTO's decision. Enrolment opens when accreditation is confirmed; enquiries and bookings for later dates are welcome. Learners found competent in the final assessment receive a certificate issued by the QCTO. The QCTO's last date for enrolment on the programme is 29 February 2030.
What are the entry requirements?
Completion of the Intermediate End User Computing skills programme (SP-240202). Learners without it may gain access through recognition of prior learning (RPL), and learners who already have a module's competencies may be credited for it before the final assessment.
How is it assessed?
Continuously through quizzes, assignments, tests and practical tasks, with a formal assessment at the end of each module. The final assessment has a written part of up to 1 hour 30 minutes (pass mark 70%) and a three-hour practical brief marked against a rubric, with questions from the assessor.
Does it cover macros and VBA?
Yes. Learners record and edit macros, work with VBA and custom functions in spreadsheets, and use macros and custom templates to automate long documents.
Is there a non-accredited option?
Yes. BOTI's advanced Excel, Word and PowerPoint short courses cover single applications without the QCTO assessment; delegates receive a BOTI certificate of attendance.
